With more than 340 affiliates nationwide. MHA works to improve the mental health of all Americans, especially the 54 million individuals with mental disorders, through advocacy, education, research and service.Through powerful and effective advocacy, MHA supports public policies that promote mental health, consumer empowerment and ensure an integrated, comprehensive and accessible system of care for all.They work to reduce stigma and improve public understanding, attitudes, and actions regarding mental health and mental illnesses.In addition, MHA facilitates and supports their affiliate’s efforts to provide high quality, culturally competent mental health services and support to children, adults and seniors according to local needs and their capacity.
